The Best National Parks in Canada

Spring is nearly here in Canada which means it's the perfect time for a road trip! Here's our guide of the national parks that you can't miss. Whether you're looking for rugged mountains, dramatic coastline, or wildlife - there's something for everyone.

Banff National Park (Alberta)

Of course no guide would be complete without including the world famous Banff National Park. It's located in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, it's known for stunning mountains, crystal clear turquoise lakes (Lake Louise & Moraine Lake), and diverse wildlife. If you're lucky you can spot mountain goats, elk, and grizzly bears. Here you can hike, ski, star gaze, and visit hot springs.

Banff town has picturesque accomodation, restaurants, and shops.

Children go free, adults can either pay $10 per day or $72 for an annual pass. A family in a vehicle will pay $20 per day. You can also purchase an annual pass valid for all national parks, this costs $139.

Jasper National Park (Alberta)

Significantly less crowded than Banff, Jasper National Park is a great option if you want avoid tourists. It offers more than 1000km of walking trails, as well as glaciers, mountains, and hot springs. There's also the Jasper Skytram which provides picturesque views. In terms of wildlife, here you can spot black bears, elk, and wolves.

Admission costs are the same as Banff National Park. Children go free, adults can either pay $10 per day or $72 for an annual pass. A family in a vehicle will pay $20 per day. You can also purchase an annual pass valid for all national parks, this costs $139.

Gros Morne National Park (Newfoundland & Labrador)

Gros Morne is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with great geological significance. It has ancient mountains, coastal cliffs, and dramatic fjords. We recommend the Green Gardens as well as a boat tour at Western Brook Pond. There's a variety of wildlife here, such as moose and caribou.

Admission here is cheaper than other national parks, with an adult costing $7.80 per day, children free, a family $15.70 and an annual pass is only $39.20.

Pacific Rim National Park Reserve (British Colombia)

Located on Vancouver Island, you don't have to travel far from the city to experience nature. It has world class beaches as well as a rainforest - something you don't often associate with Canada! The West Coast Trail is one of Canada's most challenging routes so if you plan to do this then come prepared. If you're into surfing then you'll want to visit the famous Long Beach area. There's no shortage of wildlife here, it's a prime whale watching spot.
